ACCESSIBILITY:
Enter the rehearsal space on School St – it is an accessible entrance, with a ramp up to the door & an automatic door. We rehearse on the 1st floor. Because of flood damage in the building & subsequent construction, there may be days when we rehearse on the 2nd floor, accessed only by stairs. If that would present a barrier for you, please let Emily know.
There are several all-gender bathrooms on the 1st floor. The stalls are not ADA-sized.
Masks are optional, and always welcome. In the event of a covid surge, masks may be required.
A brief history of TYM:
Summer 2018 was our first session, where 30 people rehearsed in a punk venue on 52nd st in West Philly. We moved to Calvary Center to create a more accessible rehearsal space, and grew to a record of 75 members in spring 2020. Along the way, we’ve premiered new music in collaboration with queer Philly composers like: Thunder Thighs, Daniel De Jesús, Hermit High Priestess, Joel Chartkoff, Snow Caps and Hot Tears.
We’ve also performed the work of Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Frank Ocean, Meredith Monk, Dolly Parton, Divine, Arthur Russell, Connie Converse, Janelle Monae and Pauline Oliveros.
In 2024, TYM operates as a roving, multi-city project with pop-up choir events, in Philly, Vermont and beyond.
*More about gender! TYM uses gender neutral singing language (high/low parts, for example, instead of men/women, soprano/tenor, etc). Emily has much experience working with trans and non-binary singers, including those whose voices are changing on testosterone. Trans women and trans feminine folks are welcome in Trust Your Moves, and Emily will actively work with all singers to create a space where your body, voice and gender are affirmed.
**More about musical ability! TYM is for singers of all kinds, including people who think they “can’t sing.” You totally can, and you really should. No auditions, and no requirement to read music!
